Three girls descend from the train at a country station. They are part of The Women's Land Army, recruited to replace the farm labourers who have gone off to War. Waiting for them is Mr Lawrence, on whose farm they will be billeted. Beautiful Stella is engaged to Philip, a handsome naval officer; Ag is a serious academic who plans to be a lawyer; and fun-loving Prue, a hairdresser from Manchester seems ill equipped for anything except romance. Mr Lawrence's misgivings are obvious. Will this disparate threesome really be able to undertake the manual labour he needs to keep the farm running?
