The Madness Of King George was nominated in four categories at the Academy Awards, winning Best Art Direction.
At the British Academy Film Awards, the film received 14 nominations, including Best Film, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Leading Actress (Helen Mirren). It won Best British Film, Best Leading Actor (Nigel Hawthorne) and Best Makeup/Hair.
