Set in a small English coastal town in the 1950's, David Leland's Wish You Were Here is a comical poignant story of a young girl's sexual awakening.

Lynda, an exuberant 16 year old, lives with her father (the local gents hairdresser) and her younger sister ("my boring bloody sister").

Starved of affection since the death of her mother, Lynda learns at a very early age that she can attract the attention she so desperately needs by shocking those around her.

The film follows her hazardous journey through adolescence and takes a nostalgic look at 1950's England. It also links the past with the present and shows that, when it comes to matters sexual, or affairs of the heart, we have little to guide us but the ignorance and prejudice of successive generations.
