George (Bob Hoskins) is a small time loser just out of prison. The only job he can find is to be a driver for Simone (Cathy Tyson), a beautiful high priced call girl, with whom he becomes fascinated. But his fascination with her leads him on a dangerous quest through the sordid underbelly of London.

Mona Lisa received one nomination at the Academy Awards in 1987: Best Actor for Bob Hoskins. Hoskins won the Best Actor award at the BAFTAs in the same year, and the film picked up a further five nominations, including Actress, Direction, Editing, Original Screenplay and Film.
